Can the alert (or upload of the alert) be changed in the field (e.g. customer spots an issue and turns it on)? This is aimed at customers who require complete control of when (and what) data the device uploads to servers outside their control

We have designed the firmware agent to avoid listening for incoming commands for security reasons, so there is no built-in logic for this. But since you have complete control over when alerts are generated, you could add that on top of our solution. For instance, if using AWS IoT, you could store a bitfield in the Device Shadow, that is then automatically synced with the device. This could be used to enable/disable specific alerts in the device code.
